01:25 Coleman’s definition of “wokeness”—and why he’s against it 13:07 Poverty or privilege: Which predicts wokeness among black Americans? 22:46 How much progress has America made since Jim Crow? 32:17 Why writers in particular are haunted by their past
This is a great conversation! What I'd be interested in hearing further from Coleman H is his views on actual politics. Ok, you don't like "wokeness", you don't like BLM, you don't like trans people saying they are women (sorry, last point is from listening a bit to CH's own podcast), but does that mean you should vote Republican? Of course the Republican party wants people to make that direct connection. But I am skeptical that voting for one party or the other does much to change the "culture" in that sense. Anyway, I'm glad to be introduced to this interesting thinker, so, thank you RW.
