What's the difference between the first time home buyer tax credit in 2008 and the student loan forgiveness? I received that credit (the one you didn't have to pay back) when I built my house. It seems ridiculous to strike down the student loan forgiveness!

The Federal government is long overdue stepping in to make post high school education cheaper! This would include medical school, we are falling way short of the doctors we need as a society and cheaper education would help that. Having doctors graduate with close to $750k debt is just insanity and forces them to pick the highest income earning areas (geographic and specialty like plastic surgery).

This is why you see so many P.A.'s and nurse practitioners now, not enough doctors, especially in poorer, rural areas.

Not to mention jobs like public school teachers needing to get tens of thousands of debt for low paying positions.
