I’m with John Mearsheimer on this. Israel will continue to strengthen apartheid. Several decades from now it’ll get to be too much particularly with Palestinian population growth and they’ll need to negotiate a South Africa style one state settlement. Chances of much else but status quo seems zero (reference intended). The West Bank is just too close to Tel Aviv for a two state solution.
There is not much hope for a two state solution and the reason was made clear recently at the WH briefing. Reporter: Do the Palestinians have a right to self-defense? WH: All states have a right to self-defense. Reporter: Is Palestine a state? WH I am not in a position to get into the legal aspects in this news conference. So the answer is clear. Palestine is not officially a state and until it is, Palestinians are not entitled to self-defense. Knowing this, why would Israel accept a two state solution?
Bob, as I'm sure you're aware Martin Buber (who considered himself a Zionist), proposed a bi-national state seventy years ago.
